Arab-Andalusian music originated in the Islamic territories of the Iberian Peninsula, known as Al-Andalus, during the Medieval Period (Nuttall et al., 2021). The Arab kingdoms maintained a Melting pot of Jewish, Muslim, and Christian culture (El legando andalusi). Following the defeat of Islamic kingdoms in such region, Andalusian peoples migrated to North Africa- where Andalusian music has been popularized until the current day. Musical scales and intervals in Andalusian music are more similar to Western music than Eastern Arabic music, as tones and semi-tones are used as opposed to Eastern microtones like quarter and eighth tones (Marks n.d.)
